Summer 2016

Spring and Summer saw a few changes in personnel, namely the departure of Tom Cox in May in order to work closer to his growing family and Sian Evans departing in August, to pursue what Gill affectionately called ‘normal planning’. Lucy Booth returned to the office from maternity leave and was soon after joined by new GPP Director, Maureen Darrie who brings with her a wealth of specialist planning knowledge within the Minerals and Waste sector, but also a considerable amount of residential planning experience, an area in which GPP will look to grow.

Paula Edmonds joined in early 2015 as Office Management Assistant and Tom Cox, Senior Planner followed, joining GPP in the summer of 2015. The wider GPP family expanded with the birth of several babies, while Gill took the decision to retire. Well nearly retire, well, 80% retire. Gill can now be found in the office (at least) one day a week.  Paul left in the summer to travel round the world.

It is testament to Gill that many of the clients GPP work with now are those whom she has known throughout her career. Not to mention new clients to whom GP Planning Ltd has been recommended, primarily because of the outstanding reputation the GPP team has built up within our specialisms.

With client’s requiring Katrina’s expert CAD skills more and more, Carrie Gardner-Pett joined the team as Finance and Admin Assistant. Our first e-newsletters dropped into your mailboxes and the website was given a revamp. At this time Alex left to pursue her planning career nearer to home.

The office expanded again in 2012 with the addition of then Associate Planner (now Director) Christian Smith and two trainee planners; Paul McLaughlin & Sian Evans (now Planning Consultants).

Projects often find their way to us by word of mouth and recommendations. We are immensely grateful for the support from our long standing clients and wouldn’t be where we are now without them.

Although many of our projects are of a large scale, no job is too small. We have a wide range of clients, from large companies such as SITA, Viridor and, Shanks, new companies such as Earthworm and DRENL to small companies and individuals that undertake a wide range of different activities.

Over the years we have expanded to meet the needs of our clients in coping with the evolving environmental, planning policy and current governmental agendas.  We expanded our expertise (and continue to do so) in new technologies as they were being taken on by clients. Namely in advanced recycling technologies, anaerobic digestion, new technologies in energy from waste facilities, resource recovery and landfill restoration.

It was about this time in early 2010 that our first official website was launched . Trainee planners Nathan Maddox (now Senior Planning Consultant) & Alex Barter joined GPP.

Over the next few years Gill was joined by then trainee planner Simon Greaves, landscape designer & project management graduate (now Director) Lucy Booth and Graphics/Admin assistant Katrina Doolan.

At first the office was situated in Gill’s Mill House, complete with office cat. We soon moved across the car park to The Stables to accommodate the growing staff members, where we still reside today.

GP Planning Ltd was founded by Gill Pawson in 2007, after 7 years as a sole-practitioner, specialising in minerals and waste matters.  From its beginnings GP Planning was based on the provision of professional, honest and experienced advice, and we still proudly hold true to those values today.
